New ALP National Secretary Endorsed

George Wright was today unanimously endorsed by the ALP’s National Executive as the incoming ALP National Secretary. George replaces Karl Bitar in the role.

George has a strong and proud history of involvement with the ALP and the broader trade union movement.  He worked for the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), where he was one of the principal architects – along with Greg Combet – of the Your Rights at Work Campaign that helped defeat the Howard Government’s Work Choices legislation.  He has also worked for former Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd and former Finance Minister, Lindsay Tanner.  Most recently he held a senior position at the National Australia Bank.
